Recruiting Announcements of Gregory Chow Center, WISE and School of Economics at Xiamen University
A post at http://www.econjobrumors.com on Nov. 5, stating that “Xiamen University plan to cut 30% salary from foreign-graduated faculties”, has apparently generated misleading impacts on Xiamen University’s reputation among job candidates. We are here to clarify officially that the statement of this post is INCORRECT.
Xiamen University (XMU) has been offering very competitive salary packages to attract qualified job candidates during the past decade and has been very successful.
The salary payment scheme is currently under reform—70% of the annual salary is paid monthly and the rest of 30% is paid in full after an annual evaluation mainly based on teaching and services, not based on annual publications. This payment scheme applies to all annually salaried faculty members, regardless of a Ph.D. degree obtained from China or overseas. This type of salary scheme has also been implemented in several top universities in China, with different ratios.
Annually salaried faculty positions at Gregory Chow Center, WISE and School of Economics at XMU are tenure-track, and a tenure review will be conducted in the end of the sixth year for tenure promotion. Like in North America, there is also an internal review for the second contract renewal.
Despite this payment scheme change at the university, Gregory Chow Center, WISE and School of Economics at XMU are continuing and will continue the internationalized operations. We welcome qualified job candidates send us your application packages and we are looking forward to meeting you in Philadelphia.
